Michael Lillis, a 17-year-old freestyle skier from East Rochester, died in his sleep at his house Saturday. Lillis was explained as “a growing star in U.S. Ski & Snowboard’s Elite Aerial Improvement Program,” in an report on the U.S. Ski Team’s web-site.
Lillis, known as Mikey, was observed unresponsive by his moms and dads Saturday morning the report said.
Attained by telephone on Sunday, Johnny Kroetz, head coach of the Bristol Mountain Freestyle team, was reeling from the news of Lillis’s death. Michael’s brothers, Jonathan and Chris, joined the Bristol Mountain plan in 2001, when Michael was just a year outdated, and Kroetz grew to become close to the Lillis household.
“We’re definitely in a fog proper now trying to determine out what any of this means — how this is even feasible,” Kroetz said, noting that Lillis was an athlete who was in superior shape than most of the population. “This isn’t meant to take place.”
“He usually was a really, really happy-go-fortunate kid,” Kroetz said. “There was usually a small much more levity in the area [when he was there].”

The freestyle team is in its off season, but does informal hikes at noon on Sundays at Bristol to get into shape and make camaraderie. Kroetz planned to do the hike as typical Sunday.
“I felt that it was essential that we all get alongside one another and retain shifting,” he said. “There’s very little we can do to bring him again. It’s these kinds of an awful scenario.”

Lillis’ Instagram account posted recent images of Lillis at summertime schooling and his Youtube channel options a video clip showing the family’s involvement in aerial snowboarding.
