Man Utd manager 'response' emerges amid Carlos Baleba transfer and Ruben Amorim plans

Manchester United are eager to get back on the winning track in the Premier League as they prepare for Sunderland's visit to Old Trafford this Saturday.

Ruben Amorim is feeling the heat to turn things around after a rocky start to the new season, with United only managing two wins out of their six matches, one of which was against Chelsea . However, their spirits were dampened by Brentford, who handed them a 3-1 defeat last time out.

Rumours about Amorim's future have continued to grow, but the Portuguese manager still has the club's support. That said, several managers - including Gareth Southgate , Oliver Glasner , and Fabian Hurzeler - have been linked with the top job at Old Trafford.

"Tough decisions and rumours are always part of this job so you have to accept it, you have to deal with it," Hurzeler commented this week. "But I really want to say that I have a lot of respect for Ruben Amorim so I won't talk about his job or any rumours that might come regarding him.

"I'm really privileged to be a coach for Brighton and Hove Albion, I'm very happy here and we still have a lot of work to do."

With all this in mind, Mirror Sport has delved deeper into the latest headlines as speculation over Amorim's future continues to be topic of discussion.

Former England boss Gareth Southgate is not keen on taking the reins at Manchester United, should current manager Amorim be given the boot . It's understood that Southgate isn't in a hurry to get back into football, but he's keeping his options open, both within and outside of the sport.

Back in March 2024, Southgate was touted as a top contender for the United job when Erik ten Hag's position was under threat. However, since stepping down from his role with England, Southgate has steered clear of football, instead focusing on public speaking and motivational work.

He's also taken up hosting duties for a show on the BBC . Meanwhile, talkSPORT recently suggested that Southgate was one of three names on United's shortlist to potentially replace Amorim.

The Mirror says: While it's believed that Amorim currently has the backing of United, having a list of potential replacements ready isn't a bad idea if results continue to disappoint. This allows the club to plan ahead and be prepared.

However, contacting other candidates behind the Portuguese manager's back could seriously undermine Amorim during this challenging period for the United boss if they do indeed still back him.

In the midst of the uncertainty surrounding Amorim's future, United are reportedly still eyeing Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba, according to TEAMtalk . United attempted to sign Baleba late in the summer transfer window but were unable to strike a deal due to Brighton's steep asking price.

The Seagulls are reportedly demanding a fee similar to the £115million they pocketed for Moises Caicedo in 2023. Despite this, it's believed that United are still keen on pursuing the 21 year old, regardless of whether Amorim remains at the helm.

They could even make an official bid for his services next year. Liverpool are also said to be keeping tabs on the young talent.
