Iconic former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been spotted for the first time following his health scare on May 3rd. The Scot was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure after being due to attend United's match with Liverpool .

The 84-year-old was transported away in an ambulance roughly an hour before United 's fixture against their bitter rivals got underway, though it was not deemed an emergency scenario. Ferguson was subsequently released to carry on his recovery at home.

The Premier League icon has now been photographed beaming for a snap with a supporter at a restaurant in Wilmslow, Manchester. Fergie appeared in high spirits after taking a picture with football enthusiast Vimal Devassy, who shared the image online.

The restaurant employee shared the photograph to his Instagram profile, where he wrote a heartfelt message mentioning his admiration for one of Sir Alex's former players, Cristiano Ronaldo . He said: "Not every photo tells a story - some capture a feeling. I wasn't shaking because I met a football legend.

"I was shaking because I was standing beside a man who helped shape the journey of my idol, Cristiano Ronaldo. I'm not the biggest Manchester United fan, but my admiration for Sir Alex Ferguson and the special relationship he built with Ronaldo has always inspired me."

"A moment I'll never forget. Thank you, Sir Alex."

Ferguson is broadly considered United's greatest-ever manager, having claimed 13 Premier League titles during his time in charge, alongside two Champions League trophies and countless domestic honours. He stepped down in 2013 after 26 years at the helm.

Speaking to The Sun about his meeting with the legendary Scot, Vimal added: "I met him at our restaurant, and before he left, I asked if he would mind taking a photo with me."

"He happily agreed, which I really appreciated. It was a simple but special moment that I'll always remember."

League Managers' Association chief executive Richard Bevan has disclosed that Ferguson is 'on the mend' after being unable to attend their annual awards ceremony . The former Aberdeen manager wrote a letter to the Manager of the Year recipient Frank Lampard as England manager Thomas Tuchel intervened to present the Sir Alex Ferguson Trophy in his absence.

Tuchel said: "It is, of course, not the same without Sir Alex himself, and we wish him all the best and a speedy recovery so that he is hopefully with us next year on stage again. Until then, I have the privilege to read this letter to you, Frank."
