Piers Morgan has hit back at fans who have called him out for being allowed on the pitch to celebrate Arsenal's Premier League triumph with the players.

The former GMB presenter is a well known Gunners fan and was present at Selhurst Park for the trophy lift, marking their first title since 2004. Arsenal saw off Crystal Palace 2-1 before the Arsenal players and coaches began the celebrations.

Morgan posted pictures of himself on the pitch in the midst of the celebrations, with his sons also part of the party atmosphere. The broadcaster would also share a snap of him and Declan Rice .

It led to questions over how Morgan, ultimately just a paying fan, was allowed on the pitch. Some cited him using his profile to get access that normal fans would never enjoy, with the 61-year-old explaining he bought hospitality tickets before being invited onto the pitch.

He said on social media: "To clarify, on March 4, I paid full price (£750 + VAT each) for 4 tickets to Palace’s very nice 2010 Club hospitality suite. Then we got invited into the boardroom, and offered the chance to go pitch-side for the trophy-lift. We feel very lucky. Thanks @CPFC."

In response to another fan the broadcaster underlined his dedication to being a supporter and insists he simply bought ticket available to anyone. He said: "The tickets I bought were available to anyone and I paid full price. And I pay full price for 4 season tickets, go to every Arsenal game when I am in England, and watch every Arsenal game when abroad. That qualify me as a proper fan?"

Morgan's previous comments on social media, where he is never shy of being outspoken, have been thrown back at him. He was adamant that Mikel Arteta needed to be axed when things went going well, but has since admitted that he has been proved wrong by the Spaniard.

Morgan shared a picture of himself on the Selhurst Park pitch among the celebrations involving the players and staff and simply said: "Memo to all haters: I don’t care.. we’re Champions."

Arsenal could yet complete their memorable season by adding the Champions League to their Premier League triumph. They take on PSG this Saturday in Budapest seeking to win the European Cup for the first time, but will need to overcome the current holders and the team who knocked them out last term.

Morgan claimed he was "Very very confident…" that Arsenal would claim victory this weekend.
