Sunderland Sign Dutch Keeper Roefs in £9m Deal

Sunderland have confirmed the signing of Dutch goalkeeper Robin Roefs from NEC Nijmegen, with the 22-year-old putting pen to paper on a five-year deal at the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats are believed to have paid an initial £9 million for Roefs, with a further £2.6 million in potential add-ons. The agreement also includes a sell-on clause for NEC.

Roefs, a product of NEC's youth system, made 42 appearances for the Eredivisie side last season, playing a key role in their impressive eighth-place finish.

The talented shot-stopper has also featured for the Netherlands at various youth levels and was part of the Under-21 squad at the recent European Championship. He helped his country reach the semi-finals, where they were knocked out by eventual champions England.

Roefs becomes Sunderland’s eighth signing of the summer transfer window, joining Reinildo Mandava , Chemsdine Talbi , Noah Sadiki , Enzo Le Fée , Habib Diarra , Simon Adingra and Granit Xhaka in what’s shaping up to be an ambitious rebuild.
