Arsenal are said to be interested in signing up the son of their former defender, Matthew Upson , when the teenage defender leaves Tottenham at the end of the month.

Upson made 57 appearances across six seasons for Arsenal during his playing career before going on to represent Birmingham City and West Ham in the Premier League . He won 21 caps for England, too, before retiring in 2016.

The 47-year-old's son, Elijah, also plays as a defender and has come through the academy ranks at Tottenham after joining the club at the age of seven. He has announced he will leave Spurs after more than a decade when his contract expires — and it seems he could follow in his father's footsteps by representing Tottenham's bitter rivals.

That's per The Athletic , who claim Arsenal hold an interest in Upson Jr. The 18-year-old would be available on a free transfer and any deal would be a move for the future from Arsenal, who are always scouring the country for the best young talent.

Arsenal have already set their sights on adding another talented teenager to their ranks this summer by launching a swoop for the exciting Leicester City winger, Jeremy Monga.

Monga is just 16 years of age but already has several Premier League suitors after breaking into the first-team picture at Leicester.

The Foxes would like to keep Monga around following relegation from the Championship, but Mirror Football revealed over the weekend that Arsenal are in pole position to sign the youngster when he turns 17 next month.

Arsenal are also in the market for more senior attacking additions and hold a strong interest in Morgan Rogers. The Aston Villa attacking midfielder is not short of elite level suitors, though, and is currently at the World Cup with England.

Bradley Barcola and Christos Tzolis are also on Arsenal's radar in their quest to level up the left-hand side of their attack.
