Manchester United may well be squirming each time Crysencio Summerville gets on the scoresheet at the World Cup . The West Ham forward is firmly on the Red Devils' radar as a summer transfer target.

With the Hammers having dropped out of the Premier League last season , the former Leeds United man is widely expected to depart the London Stadium before the new campaign begins. A fee of £50million has been the figure consistently circulating over recent weeks for the Dutch star.

Yet following his contribution in the Netherlands ' emphatic 5-1 thrashing of Sweden on Saturday evening - coming hot on the heels of a stunning strike in their 2-2 stalemate with Japan - his valuation is climbing with every impressive performance he delivers.

Summerville has already notched two goals and an assist in just his opening two appearances. He could add to those figures on Friday, 26 June, when Ronald Koeman's men take on Group F stragglers Tunisia , who have suffered heavy defeats of 5-1 and 4-0 at the hands of Sweden and Japan respectively.

His performances will be music to West Ham's ears. It is understood there is no buyout clause in the former Leeds man's contract, leaving the Hammers free to name their price .

Should Summerville maintain his current goalscoring form, that asking price is only likely to rise. United could also face stiff competition, with Paris Saint-Germain reportedly joining the race for the 24-year-old.

The French club are also anticipated to sanction Bradley Barcola's departure, meaning they will be searching for a new left-sided attacker. Summerville has firmly established himself in the European transfer window with his displays for the Netherlands.

Notably, both of his World Cup outings have come from the bench. Following their win against Sweden, Netherlands manager Koeman appeared to hint that Summerville may replace Donyell Malen when the fixtures become more challenging.

He said: "I think Summerville is stronger defensively. We talk a lot with the players about recognizing tactical changes on the pitch quicker.. I understand that the substitution is difficult for Donyell, but this is top-level football. Team performances are what matter.

"Before the match, I sat down with him and explained why he would play on the right and that he would have the freedom to cut inside because he is not a natural right winger."

In the Premier League , Summerville registered five goals and four assists across 31 appearances for the Hammers last campaign. With United understood to be pursuing a left-winger, his showings at the World Cup, combined with his top-flight form, could prove sufficient to persuade Michael Carrick to complete his signing.
