Footage reveals what sparked Harry Maguire row with Gabriel Magalhaes after Arsenal defeat

Gabriel Magalhaes refused to shake Harry Maguire ’s hand in the immediate aftermath of Arsenal ’s 3-2 defeat to Manchester United .

Matheus Cunha’s excellent finish in the 87th minute sealed the win for Michael Carrick’s side at the Emirates Stadium to put a dent in Arsenal’s Premier League title challenge.

Gabriel and Maguire were involved in a heated tussle during the closing stages of injury time, with the United centre-back throwing his Arsenal rival aside with both hands.

The pair were then involved in a heated altercation immediately after the full-time whistle as Senne Lammens , Noussair Mazraoui , Noni Madueke and referee Craig Pawson were forced to step in to diffuse the situation.

In newly released footage from Malaysian broadcaster Stadium Astro, Maguire can be seen offering his hand to Gabriel but the Arsenal defender pulled his hand away and started to argue with the United centre-back.

The pair then stood closer together and exchanged words before Maguire and Mazraoui, who was in close proximity, pushed Gabriel in the chest. Lammens then rushed over to pull Gabriel away from Maguire before the Arsenal defender headed towards the tunnel.

The defeat has left Arsenal top of the Premier League but their lead over Manchester City and Aston Villa is only four points.

United, meanwhile, are fourth in the Premier League on 38 points, one ahead of fifth-placed Chelsea and two ahead of Liverpool, who are in sixth.

Speaking after United’s win, Gary Lineker described Maguire as ‘one of the most underrated players in football ’.

‘I know people have a pop at him, even people in the game have a pop at him. And I know that he can be turned by a striker with pace but he makes up for it to a degree with his intelligence,’ Lineker said on The Rest Is Football podcast.

‘He can play as well, he’s good on the ball and he’s never let England down when he’s played for his country. I would also say he’s bloody brilliant in both boxes from set-pieces.

‘There is an obvious weakness with the slight lack of pack but he’s got the experience to handle that.’
