Liverpool have wasted little time accelerating their transfer plans ahead of the new season. After an underwhelming fifth-place finish in the Premier League , the Reds are determined to make amends and lay the foundations for a much stronger campaign through an ambitious summer rebuild.

With Andoni Iraola now in charge and long-time talisman Mohamed Salah gone, Liverpool are entering a new era. The club are on the verge of a significant transition and major arrivals are expected as Iraola begins shaping the squad to suit his high-intensity style of play.

One player firmly on Liverpool's radar is RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande. The Ivory Coast international has emerged as the club's top attacking target, with reports suggesting an opening £86.7million bid has already been submitted and subsequently turned down by the Bundesliga side.

However, strengthening the attack is not Liverpool's sole priority. They are also keen to reinforce their defensive options and recent reports have linked them with a highly-rated young defender who is also attracting interest from Barcelona . With that in mind, here are the latest Liverpool transfer headlines.

Liverpool's hopes of signing Diomande could be dealt a significant blow, with PSG reportedly monitoring the 19-year-old's situation. The European champions have yet to make an official approach for the winger but that could soon change as they assess their options in the transfer market.

Before committing to any major arrivals, PSG are expected to trim their squad. According to Fabrizio Romano , Atletico Madrid are in talks to sign Kang-in Lee, with negotiations over personal terms said to be progressing positively and an agreement edging closer.

Should that deal go through, it could pave the way for PSG to intensify their interest in Diomande. Reports suggest, however, that the French giants will only formalise their pursuit if they receive encouragement from the player regarding a potential move to Paris.

PSG are hardly short of attacking talent, with Ousmane Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Desire Doue and Bradley Barcola all playing prominent roles last season. Whether there is room for another high-profile winger remains unclear but if PSG decide to enter the race, Liverpool could find themselves facing serious competition for one of their top summer targets.

Liverpool are reportedly keeping close tabs on highly-rated Australian defender Lucas Herrington, who has also emerged as a target for Barcelona. The 18-year-old centre back, who was named on the bench for both of the Socceroos' opening matches of the 2026 World Cup, is widely regarded as one of Australia's brightest young prospects.

Barcelona have already made their move, reportedly submitting an opening bid that was ultimately rejected by Herrington's club, the Colorado Rapids. According to The Athletic , Liverpool scouts have also been monitoring the teenager in MLS this season, fuelling speculation that the Reds could join the race for his signature during the summer window.

Herrington's potential has not gone unnoticed by those around him. Former Premier League defender Rob Holding, now his team-mate in Colorado, recently praised the youngster's maturity and development. "He's super composed," Holding said. "Super relaxed on the ball, under pressure. He's a really good player. He just keeps getting better and better each week."

Liverpool's long-term planning at centre back could make Herrington an attractive option. With Virgil van Dijk entering the final year of his contract, a defensive refresh is likely to become an increasingly important priority. The club have already invested £60m in the signing of 20-year-old defender Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes but whether they decide to step up their interest in Herrington remains to be seen.
