The company also owns baseball royalty, the Boston Red Sox , and a major ice hockey team, the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Now, they are closing in on a takeover of LaLiga side Getafe, according to the Daily Mail .
FSG assembled a crack team, including Michael Edwards, Julian Ward and Pedro Marques, to find a European club suitable for a buyout.
French side Toulouse and Spanish outfit Malaga were closely looked at, along with around 20 other teams.
But Madrid-based Getafe now seems the most likely candidate.
Real Madrid reportedly played matchmaker during a chat between Los Blancos CEO Jose Angel Sanchez and Getafe president Angel Torres.
Having been made aware of Liverpool's interest, Getafe welcomed an FSG delegation who flew out to take a closer look at their operation in early August.
Talks are said to have been positive - helped by Englishman Ward's fluent Spanish.
And FSG bosses are now weighing up their next move.
The potential cost of a full-scale takeover is still unknown. But if the demands are reasonable, a deal is expected to be a formality.
A Getafe buyout could see Liverpool emulate Chelsea 's close ties to Strasbourg, and Manchester City 's links to members of City Football Group.
FSG have transformed Liverpool from a sleeping giant to Premier League and European big hitters during their 15 years in the boardroom.
