Man Utd Tempted to Hijack Arsenal's £55m Gyokeres Deal

Manchester United have reportedly been encouraged to bid for Viktor Gyokeres by intermediaries close to Sporting Lisbon.

Sporting are in negotiations with Arsenal over the transfer of the Swedish striker, though a deal has stalled over differences in the payment terms. Arsenal have agreed a fixed fee of £55m for Gyokeres but negotiations are ongoing over the add-ons involved in the transfer.

The delay has now led to Sporting intermediaries inviting Manchester United to rejoin the race. Ruben Amorim had been open to a reunion with the 27-year-old at Old Trafford, as the Red Devils seek to sign a striker this summer.

Gyokeres scored 43 times in all competitions under Amorim in 2023/24 as Sporting won the Primeira Liga title. However, the club’s lack of Champions League football and Gyokeres’s desire to join Arsenal had blocked a pursuit.

Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that United have been encouraged to try and hijack the player’s move to Arsenal. Agents close to the Portuguese champions have contacted Manchester United regarding a potential deal.

The communication has centred around Arsenal’s offer and whether United would be willing to meet Sporting’s demands.

However, Gyokeres’s stance remains that he wants to join Arsenal and the player is pushing for a transfer to North London. He has informed Sporting that he will not return for pre-season as he looks to engineer his exit.
