Arsenal have been credited with an interest in signing former Manchester United man Mason Greenwood by a new report in France - but Tottenham will not be pursuing him despite Roberto De Zerbi ’s arrival.

Mikel Arteta is keen to add to his attacking options ahead of next season, with the Gunners set to kick off their Premier League title defence. Julian Alvarez has already been linked with a move to North London, but it appears that Arsenal have identified an alternative. According to a report by French outlet L’Equipe , Arteta’s side are among the suitors looking at Greenwood.

The striker, 24, remains under contract until 2029 but Marseille are reportedly considering a sale in order to comply with Financial Fair Play rules. It is suggested they would want to receive around €80m (£69.3m).

Italian giants Roma have also been linked with a move, as well as Arsenal’s North London rivals, Tottenham — but Mirror Football understands that they have zero interest in reuniting Greenwood with his former manager.

The Italian had faced backlash from supporters ahead of his appointment last season for comments he made about the striker during his time with Marseille. Speaking about Greenwood at the time, he said: "I don't want to get involved in anyone's private life.

"All I can see is that Mason seems a good lad, he paid in a strong way for what happened. He has probably here found the right environment for him, which gave him affection, and held out its hand to him.

"When I look at him as a person, I feel sad for what happened in his life, without getting into the details. Because the person I know here is very different to the one that has been described, especially in England."

Greenwood was charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour before those charges were dropped. Asked about the backlash from Spurs supporters, De Zerbi said: "I wasn't surprised.

"I was a bit sad and sorry it happened because I'm sorry if somebody took offence. I must repeat what I said. This topic is very close to me. I'm very sensitive about this topic because of the person I am and because I have a daughter.

"And so I must repeat what I said the other time. I have always been against - always - any type of violence, especially against women. But not only violence - even just sexist jokes or other sexist behaviours.

"I have a daughter and I'm directly affected by it. I know who I am. I know the type of person I am, so I wasn't annoyed by the questions - I'm just sad about them."

Greenwood started his career with Man United, scoring 35 goals in 129 appearances before a loan spell at Getafe. He was then sold to Marseille in 2024 and has gone on to score 48 times in 81 outings for the French side.
