Man Utd give £37m update as CEO Omar Berrada speaks out

Manchester United have confirmed they generated an operating profit of £37.7million for the nine months to March 31 this year.

It's a huge difference for United compared to the £3.2m operating loss in the nine months to the same date last year, as the club continue to see the benefit of cutting cost and headcount reduction across the business.

United cite that, alongside the cost-cutting measures that have been put in place by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Reds board, improved performances in the Premier League have helped generate more revenue across the club.

In a statement after United's third-quarter fiscal results were confirmed, chief executive offer Omar Berrada said: "We feel very positive about the club's progress this season and the continuing positive impact of our business transformation initiatives. Finishing third in the Premier League and securing qualification to next season’s UEFA Champions League is testament to our men’s team’s improved form on the pitch.

"Michael Carrick has done an excellent job in the 17 games he has overseen and we are delighted that he will continue as Head Coach.

"Our women's team reached the quarter final in the UEFA Women's Champions League and also reached the final of the League Cup for the first time and will be participating once again in the World Sevens Series.

"On the academy side, reaching the FA Youth Cup and PL2 play-off finals is also an indication of our continued commitment to youth development."

The statement finished with United confirming that the club remains committed to, and in compliance with, both the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and UEFA's Financial Fair Play (FFP) Regulations.

United ended the Premier League season in third and with back-to-back victories against Nottingham Forest and Brighton . It proved to be a successful second-half of the campaign for the Reds, who rewarded Michael Carrick with a permanent job after he spearheaded the club back to the Champions League.

Carrick was appointed as United's interim head coach until the end of the season in mid-January after Ruben Amorim was sacked. Since Carrick returned to Old Trafford, he has done a remarkable job, winning 12, drawing three and losing two of his 17 matches, accumulating an impressive 70 per cent win rate.

Speaking after United gave Carrick a two-year contract last week, he said: "From the moment that I arrived here 20 years ago, I felt the magic of Manchester United . Carrying the responsibility of leading our special football club fills me with immense pride.
