Manchester United's summer is about to ratchet up a few notches as the club prepares to conclude its first deal of the off-season. However, there will be no rest for the wicked as a host of other transfers lie in the offing.
There's a sense of urgency around Old Trafford as Michael Carrick looks to convince Bruno Fernandes to pen fresh terms at United . The club has reportedly made plans to demonstrate its credentials as a title contender, and a flurry of transfer activity could do just the trick.
One question mark in among the transfer trove is Marcus Rashford , whose future could reach a resolution following planned talks this week. Mirror Football dissects all that and more as the latest headlines from around Old Trafford come to light.

In a seemingly never-ending sequence of updates relating to Rashford, United are also braced for talks over what to do with the forward. The Daily Mail report the date is in the diary this week for the England winger and his club in the aim of bringing some clarity about his next move.
All parties seem well aware of the specifics as things stand. Both Rashford and Barcelona manager Hansi Flick want him to stay at the Camp Nou following a successful loan, during which he scored 14 goals and registered 14 assists for the club.
It's also long been known that Barca will have to stump up a £26million fee to sign the England forward permanently. It was reported earlier in the year the Catalans attempted to negotiate that figure down but United aren't interested in doing so.
It was also recently reported Barcelona would prioritise a second season-long loan before making the move permanent next summer instead. However, United also have no interest in loaning the player again and are prioritising a sale if Rashford is to leave.
The 28-year-old was once a beloved figure at United before falling out of favour under the likes of Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim. Carrick is understood to be open to the player returning, though Rashford's dream scenario is to sign at the Camp Nou on a long-term deal.
This week's discussions should provide greater clarity over the situation, including the possibility of Rashford moving somewhere other than Catalonia. Jose Mourinho is reportedly hoping to sign the player if he takes over as Real Madrid manager, though the club's ongoing elections are delaying that rumoured appointment.
Sky has upgraded its Ultimate TV and Sky Sports bundle to now include HBO Max, Netflix, Disney+, discovery+ and Hayu, as well as 135 channels and full Sky coverage of the Premier League and EFL.
Rashford's sale is reportedly just one of seven transfers United have planned as part of a top-to-bottom overhaul this summer. Another is the addition of Atalanta midfielder Ederson, who is believed to be on the verge of signing in a deal worth around £40m .
The i Paper reported United have made up a shortlist of midfield signings they want this summer. And that would see any two of Mateus Fernandes, Carlos Baleba or Sandro Tonali sign on in addition to Ederson, who has reportedly agreed personal terms already.
Carrick's side appear to have little faith in recruiting the likes of Elliot Anderson or Adam Wharton despite rumours in recent months. Instead, someone like Fernandes would be much more attainable in light of West Ham's relegation, while Tonali may be within reach as Newcastle desperately seek funds following their failure to qualify for Europe .

Baleba was linked with United last summer before the club baulked at Brighton's supposed £100m valuation of the player. It's believed that figure has come down considerably since then but it remains to be seen if United hold the same interest following a stop-start season on the south coast.
As for which players could be moved on in order to finance those moves, The i Paper mentioned Manuel Ugarte, Joshua Zirkzee and Andre Onana as three players who could raise significant capital. That's in addition to the sale of Rashford, whether it's Barcelona or some other suitor who takes the plunge.
It's reported United are willing to cut ties with Ugarte before his price falls further, having fallen way short of justifying his £50m price tag. Zirkzee was purportedly eyeing the exit door earlier in the year when Roma raised interest, though he's since committed to the project at Old Trafford.
Casemiro's exit alone will free up around £16m per year as United look to supplement his contributions from midfield. And it may take more than just the one midfield signing to fully cover the void he's set to leave this summer.
