Newcastle receive major Bruno Guimaraes boost ahead of Champions League showdown in Paris

Bruno Guimaraes has travelled with Newcastle for their Champions League showdown at Paris Saint-Germain .

Daily Mail Sport understands the Brazilian is part of the squad that flies to Paris on Tuesday afternoon, after missing Sunday’s 2-0 defeat by Aston Villa with an ankle injury.

However, Guimaraes will undergo a late fitness test before Eddie Howe decides upon his involvement.

The influential captain will be given every chance to make the game, and there is hope that he will return to the starting XI.

Newcastle need a win to be sure of making the top eight and progressing straight to the last 16, avoiding a two-legged playoff round.

Guimaraes injured his ankle during last Wednesday’s 3-0 win over PSV but Howe said at the weekend the problem was not thought to be serious.

His presence on the flight to the French capital is a huge boost for the head coach and his players, who have not won a Premier League game in his absence in four years now.
