Wrexham star Conor Coady is reportedly being eyed for a potential coaching role at Wolves following Rob Edwards ' appointment as manager. The former England defender joined the Red Dragons , owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac , from Leicester City City for a fee of £2million at the start of August.

However, despite starting in Wrexham 's opening Championship match at Southampton , the 32-year-old has quickly fallen down the pecking order under manager Phil Parkinson . Coady has not played in the league since the Welsh side's 3-1 loss at home to QPR in mid-September and is now seemingly being considered to join the coaching set-up at Molineux.

Edwards was announced as the Premier League club's new boss on Wednesday after previous stints as a player, coach and caretaker manager. He joined on a three-and-a-half year deal after being poached from Championship promotion challengers Middlesbrough .

As per The Telegraph , Wolves are now mulling over offering Coady a coaching role at the club where he made more than 300 appearances earlier in his career. The centre-back was also named captain and helped his team secure promotion to the top flight during an eight-year spell between 2015 and 2023.

A return is believed to be unlikely, though, given he only recently joined Wrexham on a two-year deal. Former Wales striker Iwan Roberts criticised the signing of Coady earlier in the season after labelling him as being "past his prime".

However, his arrival was broadly seen as a big coup for the newly-promoted side after they fought off interest from Scottish giants Rangers . Coady even received a friendly greeting from the club's celebrity owners , initially via WhatsApp, followed by an in-person meeting before Wrexham's first home game of the season.

Speaking during an appearance on BBC Radio 5 Live in August, Coady said: "When I signed, he [Ryan] sent me a video and Rob messaged me. It was amazing just to get a message to say, 'Welcome to the club.' I got a WhatsApp from an American number which I thought was a bit strange.

"I sat on the couch with my missus watching it and it was a video of Ryan. I was really starstruck and he was just welcoming me to the club and saying how good it is to have me, what we want to do as a club and how we want to go forward."

Coady joked that he was taken aback by Reynolds' height when speaking to him in person. He added: "Meeting him for the first time, he's quite a big fella. I said he can play centre half with me, and he said he's never played football in his life.

"He's a really lovely man. What he's done for Wrexham, and what Rob has done for Wrexham, I think it's incredible to see where they're at now."

Meanwhile, Edwards faces an uphill challenge to prevent Wolves from being relegated from the Premier League after replacing Vitor Pereira , who was sacked following a defeat at Fulham . The West Midlands side have registered just two points from their first ten league games, with an eight-point gap to safety.

Edwards' decision to leave Championship high-flyers Middlesbrough less than six months after taking charge has proved controversial . Angry 'Boro officials cancelled the 42-year-old's pre-match press conference ahead of last weekend's win over Birmingham City and stood him down from leading the side on matchday amid talks over his future.

'Boro were left upset by Wolves' approach , accusing them of breaking rules after an initial attempt to speak to Edwards was rejected. However, he later made his desire to leave clear and a compensation deal worth around £3m was agreed between the two clubs over the weekend.

Wrexham AFC is the arguably the fastest-growing club in the world at the moment thanks to a certain Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

The Dragons have achieved two consecutive promotions and are cheered on by crowds from not only North Wales but also from all over the globe, thanks to the success of the Disney+ documentary 'Welcome to Wrexham'.
