Mikel Arteta will be rewarded for Arsenal’s title success with a new contract - and another transfer spending spree.

Arsenal are keen to tie down their title-winning boss with a two-year extension as Arteta’s current deal expires in 2027. Gunners boss Arteta has done a remarkable job in six-and-a-half years at the Emirates with his crowning glory leading the club to their first Premier League title in 22 years.

Arteta has now established himself as one of Europe’s top coaches and knows he can virtually name his own price but it is certain to see a big improvement from his current £5m-a-year with huge Champions League bonuses. Arsenal are also planning another big summer transfer window - even though there are likely to be departures this summer as well as new arrival.

Gunners sporting director Andrea Berta is keen to strengthen Arsenal’s forward line with Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez a target. Alvarez appeals because he is proven at the top level, prolific and can also play in different positions which is a key point in Arsenal’s recruitment.

They want to strengthen the left wing and central midfield with West Ham's Mateus Fernandes one of several they are looking at with Newcastle ’s Sandro Tonali another possible.

They have also been keeping tabs on Porto’s Victor Froholdt, while they would ideally like a centre half to strengthen the squad.

Arsenal will definitely have to sell this summer and any window will not be as big as last year when they splashed £250m on the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke.

Gabriel Jesus has a year left and could be on his way because of a lack of game time while there could be big name departures to help balance the books.

Borussia Dortmund tried to Ethan Nwaneri last summer and remain keen with Arsenal facing the possibility of having to sell an academy graduate because that nets pure profit.

Gabriel Martinelli is another attraxting strong interest because he is no longer a guaranteed starter.
