The Atalanta midfielder Ederson is poised to become the first signing of the Michael Carrick era at Manchester United with a deal now agreed for his services.
Carrick is set to oversee a rebuild of Manchester United's midfield this summer after winning 11 of his 16 games in interim charge to land the head coach position permanently. And with Casemiro having already departed Old Trafford, the club have promptly got down to business in the transfer market.
Ederson has long been linked with a move to United and, after weeks of talks, a club-to-club agreement has now been reached.
The Athletic report that United will pay an initial €40.5million (£35m) for the 26-year-old plus a further €4.5m (£4m) in add-ons.
It's claimed that Ederson will sign a four-year contract with an option for a further 12 months once he has completed a medical, with a deal expected to be wrapped up by early July.
While Ederson is likely to become the first Manchester United signing made under Carrick, the Brazilian will not be the only new arrival at Old Trafford this summer.
The Red Devils are intent on signing more midfielders and could even add another two depending on how the summer progresses.

Mateus Fernandes has emerged as another target in midfield, although Arsenal are also interested in the West Ham player who is not expected to stick around following the Hammers' relegation. Carlos Baleba and Sandro Tonali are two other midfielders with Premier League experience admired by Manchester United.
United are also avid admirers of Elliot Anderson, who is poised to play a significant role for England at the World Cup following a stellar campaign for Nottingham Forest .
However, Manchester City are the favourites to land the former Newcastle star, who could command a transfer fee in excess of £100m if Nottingham Forest get their way.
