Former Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly 'hurt' by his abrupt dismissal from the club. United decided to finally cut ties with Amorim on Monday morning , in the wake of their 1-1 draw against Leeds United at Elland Road.

The sacking was announced just hours after a fiery post-match press conference , which hinted at tensions behind the scenes. Amorim's tenure at Old Trafford lasted for 14 months, during which the Red Devils struggled to find their rhythm.

Despite currently sitting sixth in the Premier League table, three points shy of the top four, the club decided to part ways with the manager.

Sky Sports ' Rob Dorsett reports that Amorim has been left 'hurt' by the club's decision. While acknowledging the team's poor performances, he believed that Champions League qualification was still within reach.

It's also reported that he felt frustrated with being 'micro-managed', and this led to a disagreement with Jason Wilcox over tactics last Friday.

According to sources close to Amorim, he found the 'external noise' at United challenging but was firm in his belief that he was up to the task. The head coach was taken aback by the unique challenges that come with managing a club like United.

With Amorim out of the picture, United are now on the hunt for a new head coach.

In the meantime, Darren Fletcher will step in as caretaker manager for Wednesday night's Premier League match against Burnley .

The club is contemplating bringing in a seasoned interim manager to steer the ship until the season's end, with plans for a permanent appointment in the summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick, both currently out of work, are among the potential short-term candidates being mulled over. The club are also said to be moving to bring former defender Jonny Evans to the club as part of the backroom staff.

After their match against Burnley, United's focus will shift to the FA Cup , where they'll be hosting Brighton and Hove Albion in the third round this weekend.

Following that, they face a challenging schedule with consecutive Premier League matches against Manchester City at home and Arsenal away.

Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle ahead of the 2025/26 season, saving members £192 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.
